“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like
a merchant looking for fine pearls.
When he found one
of great value,
he went away and sold everything he had
and bought it."
~ Matthew 13:45-46 ~
Let's say you are given a diamond ring. What a treasure! You'd keep an eye on it. If it broke, you'd take it to a reputable jeweler to have it fixed. If you lost it you'd be really upset. You'd leave no place unsearched.
Let's say you are given a new, fancy, long-dreamed-of car. What a treasure! You'd read over the owner's manual. You'd keep a record of mileage and oil changes. You'd make time to drive it and enjoy it instead of just having it parked somewhere. You'd drive carefully. Perhaps, you wouldn't allow anyone else behind the wheel. You'd keep it clean. You'd keep it covered in bad weather. You wouldn't want the sun to damage it. You'd be sure to have more than full-coverage insurance. You'd If you found the slightest problem you'd take to a reputable machanic to fix it. If something happened to it you'd be upset.
Let's say you have kids. God has entrusted you to care and tend these little lives. (Do you consider yours a treasure?) You'd read books or magizines about the best way to raise them. You'd feed them. You'd TRY to keep them clean. You'd want them to have the best education you can provide. You'd want to spoil them and yet disipline them. You'd keep an eye on them. If you had to be away from them you'd leave them with a reputable sitter. If they were sick you'd take them to the best doctor you could find. You would do your utmost to meet all their physical needs. You'd protect them.
If something happened to this child you'd be unimaginably upset.
Let's say you have been given one body. Just one. Created just for you. Just for this time.
You eat. You sleep. You take baths. You brush your hair (or polish your head, as the case may be). You find clothes to wear. You try to make this gift look pleasing to yourself and others. You try to be healthy. Maybe you exercise. Perhaps you study to make your self smarter so that you will understand how to better care for your body. You see experts, doctors, dentist, beauticians, trainers, to help you take care of this one body. You'd not do anything to cause harm to yourself. If something happen to this body you'd be upset.
Lets say you have been given a soul. You are endowed with the likeness of God Himself.
Have you figured out that this soul is a forever and ever and ever thing. Its your greatest treasure. You only get one. How do you care for it?
How do you feed it? Keep it clean? Protect it? Maintain it? Can you educate it? Can you educate yourself about it? What could happen to it?
That creative Creator, the one who "thunk-up" all that other fun stuff for us to enjoy, my Heavenly Father, I call Him Abba (thats Hebrew for Daddy), has written ME a Love Letter. Mine is nicely bound in red leather. It is a treasure. It is the owners manual.
Do you have a copy of this Love Letter? I'm certain it was written for you too!
What does yours look like? What do you call it's author?
The Words of this Love Letter are like bread. When you consume them they norish your soul.
This Love Letter gives clear instruction on how to clean your soul. All our souls get dirty with sin. We just can't help it. We are born sinners. Life in this fallen world is hard and on our own we don't do well to resist sin. BUT God sent His only Son to wash away our many sins with His own blood.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:22-23)
This Love Letter explains that our souls are lost. But they can be found.
This Love Letter makes you smarter. You will begin to see things differently. Your eternal soul begins to look at all things from an eternal perspective.
You learn also that your soul is pleased most in pleasing God.
You find joy - not just happiness, which fades.
You find peace - even when life rages around you like a violent storm.
You find wonderful promises when you read all about the plans Abba has for you in this beautiful Love Letter.
Once you truly are FOUND you cannot be lost again. Even if you loose everything else, even your life.
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one.
Does she not light a lamp,
sweep the house and
search carefully until she finds it?
And
when she finds it,
she calls her friends and neighbors together and says,
‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’
In the same way, I
tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one
sinner who repents.”
~ Luke 15:8-10 ~
Repent!
Heaven and Hell are REAL places. Stuff (that diamond ring and that car) are like dust. Your body will wear out and you'll face death. But your soul lives forever. Somewhere.
Oh! How I long to rejoice in the salvation of the lost! My heart swells with anticipation!
Please, comment and share your story and how God revealed or continues to reveal His Love for you.
P.S. - as for the kids - the better you know God, the better you can care for them.
