.
Every year I try, in vain, to make something pretty grow in this beautiful dirt right beside the back steps. I did have two surviving little flowery somethings, a tomato plant, and a small azalea (and more weeds). The azalea is under that piece of lattice, the dog knocked over the tomato (too many times), and these adorable little boys (with help from their older but not much wiser brothers) dug the beginnings of a new city where my pitiful flowers were.
That was last week. Today they parked all the big drivable toys there. Oh my poor azalea! (I planted two - killed one right away - if this sucker survives that will be a miracle!)
Our vegi garden is not much better. But I can't blame the kids (I really could). We put string and plastic bags around the sides because that's supposed to "scare" off the animals. Yeah! Right!
Something ate the tops off all my beans and peas. Something pushed over the corn.
We have no idea how to tell when potatoes are ready (which reminds me that I was supposed to google that). My peppers seem extra slow.
But the sunflowers and the cabbages (in a different spot) are looking lovely!
| These make me think of Mr. McGregors garden and naughty little Peter. |
| Zoie - because I've not put one on here of her lately. |
PS - Happy First Day of August!
