Get Well Soon

The children all pitched in and gave me a big bad cold for the weekend. It was so thoughtlessful of them. I froze for couple of days and now I can't get cooled off. And I'm in desperate need of a nap.

Other than some hacking and barking and sneezing and snotting we are all mending nicely.

So, there are no pictures of sick people (plus, I just unburied the camera on my desk).
The puppies are opening their eyes and peeking at us. (we lost the runt last week and the boys buried it). We'll have pictures of roly-poly puppies soon. They are SO fat and cute.

I went with Papa to another doctor this morning and the Daddy stayed home from work and took all the kids to the dentist (thats my job, but I can't be in two places at once). Now he's at the orthodontist with two while the rest watch a little TV (okay, they are watching a lot of TV this afternoon, and most of it's goofy and not at all educational - we'll read tomorrow).

Here are some other things.

Our Chapter Meeting Flyer

I received this photo this morning as a thank you from GRTL. They said that there were lots of comments on this presentation. Mostly, disbelief at how many babies have been forgotten.
This isn't the whole crowd (1973-2013) but you can find several of us in it.
Our chapter is also working with the Hart County chapter to plan a Pro-Life Oratory Contest for High School Juniors and Seniors. That will happen Sunday, April 7th, 2013 at 2:00 PM. It's open to students in Hart, Franklin and surrounding counties.
I'm really excited that "my" chapter is active and I'm excited to see what God has planned.

The Big Deal & Other Words

I was messing with Jacob yesterday morning. He claims, "I'm a big boy that sucks his thumb." And I try to take his thumb from him. It's normally lots of giggles.
This time he began a conversation about wanting to play the drums (I'm sure biggest brother had "no" influence). BUT he tired to make a deal:

If we get him some drums, he'll quit sucking his thumb.

I suppose it is easier to hold your sticks if both hands are free.
The Daddy is (again) looking for an electric drum set (so if you have one you aren't using . . .I'm ready with my earplugs).

Josiah came in while I was dressing the other morning. It may be just about time for him to stay out. He looked over intently at me while I was putting on certain underthings and told me sincerely, "I like your boningas."
I said, "Thank you." What else was I supposed to say?
Then he patted his chest and mildly declared, "I don't have boningas."

Then the conversation turned to belly buttons. Thank goodness.
And we know how good he is at making things up.
Like the "Spiderman Cheese" HE just had for supper. (We thought we were all eating chicken - NO cheese).

While I'm on a role . . .

Jacob asked me one day if I had a gate. It took me a while to figure this one out.
So, the conclusions was "Yes, Mama's have gates." (it has to do with babies - no we aren't having one - yes I know this is not factual information but I also told him that the stork brought the puppies - He's 4, I have time to fix this).

Ava stopped by to read - she has deemed this post "Nice."

Good night!

Pine Wood Derby

The Royal Ambassadors (the boys Missions group at church - the RAs) held their annual Pine Wood Derby Wednesday night.
It's fun going to the races!
Elijah and Alex worked hard on their cars and it paid off. Plus they had a LOT of fun!

Alex's is green and white
 Elijah's is red and black

Little folk waiting to watch the race

Larger little folk - the RA's waiting to race

The most exciting races were between two certain brothers

The Last race of the night - can you tell who won?
For their age group Elijah came in FIRST and Alex came in a close Second.
Elijah also won Fastest in Gumlog.

There'll be an awards ceremony this Sunday during the 11 am service. You should come join us!

More Pigs

Essie has new friends. The little girls helped bring home BlueButt Girl, the runt, and Gordy, our stud. (I was hoping to name them Ham and Bacon).

Does this make us pig farmers? I think it makes us something, not sure "farmer" is the right word.
Hungry and cheap maybe.

PUPPIES!!!!!

It all started about 9 weeks ago (or so said the info we googled). Then last night between 10:30pm Feb. 6th and 2am Feb. 7th, the stork dropped by the back porch and left 6 little puppies.

Angel Cake is now the proud mother of Dip Stick, Brownie, Sandy, Snowball, Fudge, and Oreo.
Of course you are free to call them what you want in six weeks when you take one home to be your very own.
Of course there are 8 children that are just thrilled. They've been told not to pick them up yet (which seems to be an impossible rule to follow - but at least they did't carry them off).

I'm sure you'll be seeing more cute puppy pictures for a little while.

This week (I remember the camera)

Someone please remind me to tell Ava to make "normal" smiley faces.

What a fun week we've had. Especially Monday. Monday we I stayed in my PJ's and fluffy robe ALL day.  We still got "stuff" done, we were just extra comfy while doing it.

Tuesday was BEAUTIFUL! That morning we did our required lessons and then took a picnic lunch to Papa's Camp. Then we went on a root hunt (in science we just finished reading about plant roots). The camera was charging in the camper or we'd have to interesting roots to show you - sorry you had to miss all that excitement.
Papa w/the crew

Then we rode on the back of Papa's truck to the other side of the pond and took a hike up (and down and up and down) some hills. Cause we could. Papa supplied us all with walking sticks. Jacob carried a rock. Josiah stayed in the truck talking with Papa because his foot hurt (he was really just DONE wearing shoes).
We saw where the beavers had chewed trees and built dams and lodges (the beavers have been evicted for a while now).

Then we came back to camp and cleaned up and while the kids and Papa collected acorns for the pig  I took a break on a narrow bench. Here's my view.

Wednesday was regular Community Bible Study stuff and the weather was chilly and rainy. That afternoon it got really bad (for about 20 min) and threatened to be worse - they even canceled church for that evening. We just went about our business here at home and still got in bed late.

Thursday, after some lessons we attended the Coffee Can Book Club. Alex and Lora had prepared reports and they did a GREAT job. (I'm not - much - biased, they were REALLY good!)
Alex read David Livingston

Lora read The Fire Cat - Ava helped a little by whispering in her ear when she got stuck.
I was SO impressed at how much she did herself. I'm not sure why she kept her hood on.
She was reading the other day and Gene came in to wait for his tutor (that'd be me) to answer
a math question - I glanced at him and he was smiling and listening to her read.
Then I remember "I taught her to do that!!!" That's a pretty incredible feeling (every time).
The book clubbers.

After Book Club I let them pick out some books - we were at the library after all.

Josiah and this little girl went to the play area and had such a good time together.
They just talked and laughed. They were doing a puzzle together here.
Friday, MORE LESSONS. We all just could have curled up and read most of the day - maybe we should have. For some strange reason the teacher wants to "get your lesson done." But she's trying to learn a better way. (Lora and Jorja - who still like "school" - tried to bargain with me about Math for "tomorrow" - until I explained that we just aren't doing math "tomorrow" because its Saturday! We won't even crack open the math book again until Monday. They thought that was a fantastic idea).

After a quick lunch we went to Art and PE with our homeschool group. First the elementary kids do art . . .
Last week they sculpted flowers and then got to make something else if they wanted.

Snagglepus and her multicolored flower.
(The Mama thinks all these little things are great treasures).

. . . while the bigger kids do PE. (Hysterical PE - I found that there are some big cheaters among the bigger kids and it was SO funny).
My TALL ones are way down on the other end of this line of movement. (They
were not the cheaters.) Ava's in a blue/green top and Autumn is in a purple top.
They are such girls!

Then they switched and the littlers did PE . . . (almost as funny) . . .
This is the teacher, Ms. Bonnie, showing the littles how to throw correctly, or flick boogers. Same thing.

Knocking over cones.
. . . while the biggers went to art. They continued their lesson on contrast (or something - I didn't stay in there).

Then we went across the road to Wally-world and did a LOT of grocery shopping. We were home for about two hours before we left again to go to the nursing home. We had a small crowd this week. Some of our regular ladies aren't doing well and stayed in their rooms. Some just can't remember to come down to see us - we stayed a little longer to see some of them.

And now it's Saturday morning, I'm sitting here at the computer drinking chocolate milk and uploading pictures. The Daddy and Papa took the two little girls to get more pigs. Some folks are laid out in varying places reading. Some are playing sweetly together.

I heard a large blue-eyed rat in the kitchen so now we are all having cookies.

They are about to be very happy, we have recess this week - BUT they will be very disappointed, they have to help clean up. Even the porch and carport and yard - and its about 30 degrees outside.

What have we learned this week:
*Plants with taproots are easier to pull up then plants with fibrous roots.
*We have to go hike some more at Papa's camp (which scares Papa because he's sure something will eat us - I'm sure that as much noise as we make we will scare off anything).
*Alex and Lora are really good at book reports and Lora is excited until it time to speak and then she looks like a deer in the headlights. It helps to know your big sister's got your back.
*Checking out books at the library is fun - but Mama is picky and you have to get her to okay your selection - otherwise she picks something for you.
*In most real life math "almost" or "close enough" is the correct answer.
*I have very talented artist but not very athletic.
*I really need to get up and go do something productive.
